Our room had two twin beds, a futon in front of the TV, two closets, a bathroom with a bathtub, and two hammocks outside in the balcony. The floors were made of wooden planks, which may seem rustic to those used to staying in 4-star hotels, but it is actually quite practical after an afternoon in the pool or the beach as these floors dry faster and there is less of a chance of slipping.
The room wasn't too fancy. Average, more than anything. The first day, there were only two bath towels and no hand towels in my room so I had to be extra conservative. The next day, when the housekeepers cleaned my room, I was given two extra bath towels and several hand towels.
The shower's drain didn't work too well, but I assume it gets clogged easily from all the sand that the guests bring in. The shower curtain didn't cover the length of the bathtub which meant a lot of water splashed on the bathroom floor.
Ants and insects in rooms can be problem if the guest is not careful. I accidentally left some of my daughter's cookies out on the side table, and within a few hours, the ants found them. I had not seen any ants before I brought the food out so it was definitely my fault.
ROOM TIPS I took a peek at our friends' room. Instead of two twin beds, they had one king size bed, only one closet and no bath, just a shower. Outside there were lawn chairs instead of hammocks.
Although our friends were happy with their room, guests of Henry Morgan will need to speak with the front desk about what they want in their rooms before arriving at the hotel. While it's possible to change your room upon seeing it, it might take some time, so it's best to arrange this before arriving.
AIRPORT TRANSFERS Visitors to the island can arrange transportation through Henry Morgan, or take a taxi for about $20 each way. The price is about the same for both services.
AMENITIES AND FOOD Saying that the breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets are tasty is an understatement. Most of the guests in this hotel are coming directly from Italy so the food needs to be good. The owner of the hotel understands how particular the taste buds of his Italians guests are, so two chefs from Italy were flown in to make the meals just as authentic as back home. The pasta is perfectly al dente, not too raw, not too overcooked and you can taste every ingredient in the sauces. In addition to pasta, they offer other foods as well, such as Honduran cheeses and Spanish paella. The menu for the breakfast buffets are pretty static, but the lunch and dinner buffets change every day.
There are events that the guests can participate in, some free, some for a fee, like water aerobics and archery. There are even bocce ball games played in the sand. Tours are offered by the hotel, including a Roatan city tour and a ride on the glass bottom boat - for a fee. For those with children, there is a playroom with a door outside leading to the hotel's two parrots.
