Flying With Skyservice Airlines

What to Expect from the Charter Flier

Nov 16, 2009 David Tubbs

Skyservice Airlines might be a very small charter airline, but it offers an array of destinations to choose from and more than adequate services for its passengers.

Skyservice Inc. has become a consistently used airline for Canadians seeking a cheap flight to their U.S., European, or tropical destinations as it flies primarily as a charter airline for various tour operators, such as Sunquest Vacations.

Leg Room on Skyservice Flights

Skyservice is a small charter airline with a fleet of seven planes that travels to 78 different destinations, but small flights nonetheless. With discount flights it cannot be stressed enough that companies like Skyservice need to maximize its profits per seat and to do this they fill the plane with as many passengers as possible, which translates into minimal leg room. As a prospective passenger, this must be understood before getting on board.

While the leg room of the typical Skyservice flight is not horrendous by any means, it is a little tight compared to an Air Canada or American Airlines flight, but a passenger needs to understand this when the ticket price is low. For those willing to pay a little more for a better seat will find it difficult. The Skyservice fleet only has a few planes that offer a business class equivalent called Priority Plus. For those not willing to pay for Skyservice’s Priority Plus class for preferred seating may have better luck with their travel agent finding them an emergency exit seat for better leg room.

Food and Drinks on Skyservice

Skyservice offers a full range of beverages and food. Coffee and tea are free on all flights, with other non-alcoholic drinks such as soft drinks and juice free on some flight and changed on others. Be prepared to pay just in case. Skyservice offers a full menu of alcoholic drinks from beer to mixed cocktails for a reasonable charge.

Skyservice offers hot meals that are free with the menu being set by the tour operators, not the airline. The hot meals are nothing special, but with a charter airline it is nice to see hot meals that are included in the ticket cost rather than to be bought in flight.

Skyservice Priority Plus and Baggage Limits

As mentioned above, Skyservice offers a Priority Plus package that gives its customers certain perks for flying with Skyservice. Priority Plus offers advanced seat reservation in order to get more leg room, priority check-in and boarding at the airport, and an increase in the baggage weight allowance per passenger. The price of the Priority Plus packages varies depending on whether the member is willing to pay a little more for an exit row seat.

Baggage limits are always changing due to the constant fluctuation in gas prices. It is always best to check Skyservice's website for more details. For those who think their baggage limit might not be enough, or are not seasoned packers, Aurae Beidler has written an excellent article on avoiding excess baggage charges to help passengers pack for their trip more effectively.

All in all, Skyservice gets its passengers from point A to point B with minimal discomfort. Just because a passenger paid thousands for a five star resort in Jamaica does not mean their flight will be five star. A flight with Skyservice is just that, a flight. It is what every guest makes it and the people who work for Skyservice truly do want every passenger to have an enjoyable flight.
