Experience two popular caves in Bermuda - the Crystal Caverns and Fantasy Caves.
Featured on a 2002 Bermuda mailing stamp, this breathtaking cavern is located in Hamilton Parish. The name comes from the crystal clear aquamarine waters inside the caves – so clear in fact that you're able to see the bottom of Cahow Lake, its 55-feet underground lake.
It's hard to believe that in 1907 two young boys discovered one of the most incredible landmarks in Bermuda. As they went down a hole to find their cricket ball, they made an amazing finding – the Crystal Cave. To this day, the original entrance is highlighted on the tour.
Examine the stalactites and stalagmites as you walk on the pontoon bridges with your guide. Stalactites grow from the ceiling while stalagmites grow from the floor and when these two formations meet, they are called columns.
All tours in Crystal Caves are guided and start every half hour.
Nearby is Fantasy Cave, Crystal Cave's sister cavern. Fantasy Cave was opened to the public around the same time, but was soon closed by the owners in 1941. In 2001, after massive renovations, it was re-opened to the public.
While smaller than Crystal Cave, it's just as extraordinary. Formations decorate the cave's ceiling while calcium mineral deposits resembling icicles wrap the walls
Café Ole, located on the grounds, can satisfy your hunger after a long day of spelunking. Also on the grounds is Fiddlestix, a gift shop.
